Why do I make these drinking vessels out of steel and spikes?  I am so glad you asked.

Let Uncle Gryphon tell you a tale of woe and triumph...

Some 16 odd years ago I attended my very first major renaissance festival in Waynesville, Ohio.  There selling various stoneware items was this fellow who claimed that one could pound nails with his mugs and he was demonstrating just that.  I said to this man, “If I can pound a nail with the mug of my choosing, I’ll buy it”.  The man handed me a 2x4 and a framing nail.  I chose my mug and damn my soul if I did not pound that nail right into that 2x4.  I named it “Mugg”.

Mugg and I saw many a drunken revel from bonfires to easy chairs to kitchen tables.  I quaffed from him many a beverage hot or cold.  So valiant and sturdy was Mugg that I even used him to defend against wooden sword blows during practice.  Nigh indestructible.

and yet...
Much like Fenrir's downfall was Gleipnir, a chain forged by the Gods from the footstep of a cat; the roots of a mountain; a woman's beard; the breath of fishes; the sinews of a bear; and a bird's spittle... my thirsty companion also found his downfall at the footsteps of a cat.  Nay, a kitten!

One night the family's new kitten tipped Mugg from the table whilst I slept.  Only three feet did he fall, but it might as well had been a deep chasm, for at the bottom, Mugg met his end.

From that night forward I searched for an even sturdier drinking companion.  My quest all but thwarted, I decided to create one of my own.  One that looked like it could slay it’s enemies without any aid.  Like Dr. Frankenstein I stole into my workshop and emerged only when my creation finally lived.

Thus, TANK A.R.D. was born... and from him, the rest were spawn.
